Garden Weasel Gold Garden Claw Cultivator 91306 Review

Garden Weasel Gold Garden Claw Cultivator 91306
Average Reviews:

This is a handy tool for cultivating small areas, but it is not appropriate for anything more than a medium sized flowerbed. The handles work well to gain leverage, but you will feel it in your muscles if you attempt to do too large an area!
The fact that it isn't powered lets you get into areas you wouldn't want to go with even the smallest of tillers, and it does a great job of breaking up the ground to a depth of a couple of inches, which is perfect for flowers.
For larger projects, use a mini-tiller, and use this tool for the detail work and the smaller beds. Both tools are a good combination to have at your disposal.

I got this plant along with a few other from Hirts Garden. The plant isn't exactly thornless. If you know plants like I do, this would have been a very nice plant to have in your collection. But when I received the plant, it wasn't exactly thornless. The thorns are soft, but they aren't thornless. The flowers are also small. Not quite a collectable specimen.

Besides the religious significance of the Crown of Thorns, the plant also has a famous meaning of good luck engrained deeply in many beliefs. Therefore, those who grow the plant should always be blessed with lots of good luck. Crown of Thorns is a plant growing best in a sunny location. Vietnamese Coriander Plant - rau ram - daun kesom Review

Vietnamese Coriander Plant - rau ram - daun kesom
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I ordered several of these plants in early January and they arrived in excellent condition in spite of the super cold weather. The shipper put a heat pack in the box although that probably wasn't necessary since it was filled with white foam peanuts. The specimens exhibited nice green foliage. Nothing was mushy or wilted. The plant stake/label had Freeman Herbs printed on it.
Rau ram is a great addition to spring rolls or egg rolls. If you like lemon, you will probably like this herb.
I've got a larger specimen living in a pot outdoors. It is able to withstand brief dips below freezing next to a brick wall and under a breezeway. I've seen the thermometer dip to 22 degrees (for a couple of hours or less). The leaves did not freeze, and the plant is still green and healthy. The same cold snap that killed my Thai basil and tomatoes didn't seem to bother the rau ram.

Vietnamese coriander (Persicaria odorata, syn. Polygonum odoratum, Polygonaceae) is an herb whose leaves are commonly used in Southeast Asian cooking. Other English names for the herb include Vietnamese mint, Vietnamese cilantro, Cambodian mint and hot mint. The Vietnamese name is rau ram, while in Malaysia and Singapore it is called daun kesom or daun laksa (laksa leaf). In Thailand, it is called pak pai. It is not related to the mints, but the general appearance and odor are reminiscent.
Above all, the leaf is identified with Vietnamese cuisine, where it is commonly eaten fresh in salads and in raw spring rolls (goi cuon). Bowls of ph (beef noodles) are also typically garnished with Vietnamese mint. It is also popularly eaten with h t v t l n (fertilized duck egg, known as balut in the Philippines).
In Singapore and Malaysia, the shredded leaf is an essential ingredient of laksa, a spicy soup, so much so that the Malay name daun laksa means "laksa leaf."
In Australia the plant is being investigated for a source of essential oil (kesom oil).
The Vietnamese coriander is a perennial plant that grows best in tropical and subtropical zones in warm and damp conditions. It prefers full sun. The top of its leaf is dark green, with chestnut-colored spots while the leaf's bottom is burgundy red. Its stem has sections. In cooler regions grow as a house or patio plant. It is very easy to grow.
The plant you will receive is growing in a 4 inch pot and is well branched and about 6" tall.

Paper Pot Maker Review

When I first heard of this product, I was skeptical at first that one could make a pot out of newspaper without any sort of adhesive to hold it together. I took some positive reviews from another website on faith, however, and was well rewarded. The pots hold their shape suprisingly well, especially once they get a little damp from the soil.
One word of advice: stick to the suggested dimensions for the strips of newsprint that you use. While one can always use more, the pots don't form as well as if you stick to the dimensions on the instructions. Do so, and you will have an effectively unlimited supply of cheap, biodegradable pots for transplanting.

With our solid Maple Pot Maker, it's easy and fun to create and endless supply of 2 1/2" starter pots from old newspaper.  An ecoconscious alternative to plastic or peat, they can be put right in the ground at transplanting time. We easily made over hundred in an hour.  A big hit on our website last year.

I bought this plant last Spring. I bought another one on Ebay the same week. The one from Ebay would be classified as "failing to thrive with excellent care". When I opened the package on this plant I couldn't believe my eyes. It was so big and healthy. It is still big and beautiful six months later. I've always had a String of Pearls plant and after a while they tend to die out. This particular plant is so incredible I'll bet it lives longer than I will.

String of Pearls (Senecio rowleyanus). The String of Pearls is a member of the senecio family, which also includes 'Dusty Miller', 'German Ivy' and 'Cineraria', to name a few. Although the senecios vary widely, they have similar requirements and many of their delicate, succulent tapestries fill the same horticutual niche. String of Pearls, is a popular and low-maintenance plant to grow in a sunny window. It is a slow-growing variety, but your patience will be rewarded. Light: Window. Water: Water when surface is dry. They are forgiving if you forget. Fertilizer: Use either a balanced or low-nitrogen formula at low levels, but frequently---March through October. Soil: Should be loose and porous like a cactus soil.
The plant you will receive is growing in a 6" hanging basket and the vines are just beginning to cascade over the edge of the pot.

2 Hardy Kiwi Plants - Actinidia - MALE/FEMALE - Tasty Review

2 Hardy Kiwi Plants - Actinidia - MALE/FEMALE - Tasty
Average Reviews:

The previous review from "kiwigrower" is a little inaccurate. The photo shown in the ad is indeed actinidia arguta, hardy kiwi. I, too, grow kiwi, but in Oklahoma and it grows well and produces prolific quantities of smooth, green tasty fruit. We get temperatures down to 0F and it survives well. The description is accurate, too. I think "kiwigrower" might be panning the competition as he is selling kiwi plants on his website for $25 each!
A good source of information on growing kiwi Is the factsheet from Oklahoma State University Extension HLA-6249 (a PDF file), available free if you Google it.
If it'll grow in Oklahoma it'll grow most anywhere. We have very cold winters and hot, hot summers.
By the way, this is a good price for kiwi plants.

The Hardy Arctic Kiwi is THE FRUIT OF THE FUTURE. Fruits are now being marketed and sold in produce stores. It has been accepted in the marketplace and the demand will be growing in the very near future for the small delicious fruits. The Hardy Kiwi, are native to the mountains and hills of southwestern China where they grow wild in trees and on bushes. The Hardy Kiwi was introduced to the United Kingdom, Europe, United States, and New Zealand between 1900 to 1910 from China. Commercial plantings were made in New Zealand about 1930 and have become widespread over the last 20-30 years. These plants have been tested in New Hampshire and upper New York State where they survived 25 degrees F below zero temperatures! Kiwi plants are attractive growers that require a sunny location, preferably with wind protection. They can be grown in different types of soils; however, the soil must be well drained. The vines take very little maintenance-just pruning and support to hold about 100 lbs. of fruit for a mature plant. Plant 10 to 20 ft. apart. They are hardy in zones 4-9. Kiwi plants are very pretty when used to cover a wall or fence or used in landscape design. The fruit is very high in Vitamin C and its use in recipes is endless. The hardy Kiwis ripen in mid to late September. Growing instructions included with each order. Two Hardy Kiwi Plants are necessary to get fruit, a male and female. Female Plant: Actinidia 'Anna'. An outstandingly reliable bearer of relatively large fruit. The fruit is very sweet. A nurseryman from Tennessee, reports that in 1996 his large vine of 'Anna' bore over 200 lbs. of fruit. Imported into the U.S. from Belgium. Male Plant: Actinidia 'Meader'. Use as a pollinator for female selections. A beautiful vine on it's own!
The 2 plants you will receive are growing in 2 1/2" pots.

Arabica Coffee Bean Plant -4 pot- Grow & Brew Your Own" Review

Arabica Coffee Bean Plant -4 pot- Grow and Brew Your Own
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I ordered two of these for my boyfriend for Christmas '09. They arrived very quickly, and were packed very well: In individual cardboard boxes with little packing peanuts all around to cushion them. The containers they were grown in were taped well to prevent the dirt from spilling out. They came with a photocopied information sheet, but no real instructions on how to make them really thrive. One thing that impressed me was that I know they were delivered early in the day on a very snowy, below freezing day, and they sat outside by the front door until I got home later that night. I was afraid they were going to be ruined, but they were packed so well that they popped out looking fresh and perfect.
Anyway, we've had them for a couple of months now, and have repotted them, using "Tropical Plant" potting mix. I guess I should mention that they had some brownish spots on some of the leaves, which turned out to be "scale", and we had to pinch off about a third of the leaves on each plant. Since we have no other houseplants, I assume these came with the "scale", but it was easily removed, and the plants have recovered and sprouted many, many new leaves. They are about an inch taller and much fuller than when they arrived.
Coffee plants are tropical, and usually grow in the shade of other plants, so diffused, very indirect sunlight(almost shade) has been best for them, in a room that stays about 70 degrees. We've kept the plants moist, and have fed them once with general purpose houseplant food. I'd say that they are thriving and looking better every day. I hope we get to see some coffee beans on them, but they are really beautiful plants, just how they are. They have lovely medium green foliage, and the new leaves are a bright and shiny apple green.
I have talked to the horticulturist at the Crohn Conservatory here in Cincinnati, and she gave me a lot of tips on how to care for them which have obviously worked. Since this isn't a usual houseplant here, I'd say do some research before you buy these and expect to have them grow beans. We almost lost them to "scale", and had no idea.

The original home of the coffee plant is Africa. The first coffee plant of economic importance was Coffea Arabica. It grows to the height of 2-3 feet but the cultivated plants are cut to the height of 1-2 feet to get more width. The leaves of the coffee are lustrous dark green with lighter underside. The flowers emerge from the branches together with the leaves. The white coffee flower has five petals and a scent resembling that of jasmine. The coffee berries are cherry-sized and green at first, turning dark red later on. The ripening takes eight months. The coffee plant can simultaneously have flowers and berries in all stages of development. The coffee tree requires temperature of 65-80 degrees F. Thus, the coffee tree is a tropical plant. The plant you will receive is growing in a 4" pot and is about 8" tall. There are multiple plants in the pot.

Cat Grass Seeds 500 Seeds Review

Cat grass seeds will sprout very easily---you can sprinkle them on top of any kind of moisture retaining soil or peat moss. My cats eat the sprouts very quickly. I suggest that you purchase multiple seed packs. I did so to insure that I would have more sprouts ready when the first wave was gobbled. The only drawback is shipping cost--which is more than the seed packets themselves. That's another reason to order in multiples. The shipping cost for several packages is the same as for a single packet.

7 Million Live Beneficial Nematodes Review

7 Million Live Beneficial Nematodes
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We have a German Wire Haired Setter named Maxwell Quincy (Max for short) who is allergic to fleas and flea control products. Max is 11 years old and has had to be medicated every summer for this problem. While doing research on flea control I read about nematodes and decided to give them a try. They have worked wonders for Max, this is the first summer he hasn't had a severe reaction to fleas!
After seeing how well they worked to control the fleas I bought some for the cabbage cut worms in our garden. I am pleased to say that in the 25 years we have had a garden this is the first year we haven't lost one head of cabbage yet.
Plus, if you are worried about this, we have checked a small specimen from each shipment with a microscope and found the nematodes to be alive and well upon receipt. Our grandchildren love watching them and get excited everytime we get a package.
Nematodes prey upon more than just fleas and cut worms so I suggest checking out the list of things they kill. If you have trouble with any of the pests on the list purchase some for yourself and I am sure you will be pleased with the results. Nematodes are microscopic wonders!

They are completely safe for people, pets, and the environment, and are compatible with other beneficial insects. Beneficial nematodes are shipped live in the box and may be mixed directly into the soil and are applied with a sprayer.
USE: Beneficial Nematodes (BN) attack more than 230 kinds of soil dwelling and wood boring pests, such as flea larvae, white grubs, cutworms, corn root worms, strawberry weevils, gypsy moth larvae, cabbage root maggots, fungus gnat larvae, and many more. RELEASE: BN may be released by spraying with water, mixing with mulch and applying directly to the soil or potting mix, or injecting into burrows. They may be used any time of year, as long as the ground is not frozen. Do not release in direct sunlight, as this will kill them. See directions for details. COVERAGE: Will cover up to 200 square feet, but faster results are obtained with higher concentrations, covering only 200 square feet. But the 7 million active units in each pint container will hunt down, penetrate, and kill most soil dwelling pests. I've had a huge problem with cabbage worms and other caterpillars destroying my herbs. While traditional chemical pesticides worked fairly well, I never felt all that comfortable eating my herbs after spraying them with those chemicals. When I read about BT (Bacillus thuringiensis), I thought it sounded too good to be true...a bacterium that kills caterpillars but is absolutely harmless to humans, pets, and bees. I'm so glad I tried Safer Brand Caterpillar Killer with BT! I sprayed my sad, moth-eaten herbs with BT a couple times a week for 2 to 3 weeks and I'm happy to say that there are no signs of caterpillars and my plants have really come back to life! The spray smells awful but the smell dissipates quickly and it works so I don't really care about the transient odor. I definitely recommend this product!

The seeds arrived well packaged and in a timely manner. Mine did not come in little plastic pouches (as pictured). They arrived in what looked sort of like pill boxes with the name of the seed in each section printed on the tab. The pill boxes were shrink wrapped and delivered in a padded envelope. I planted them a few days after they arrived and at this time most of them have already started to sprout and grow. The only reason I did not give 5 stars was because they did not arrive with any planting instructions so I'm not sure if the ones that haven't sprouted yet needed something done to them prior to planting or if they are just slow to sprout.
