(More customer reviews)My family had one of these plates for as long as I can remember. It is tied with so many good memories. We used it for birthdays, guests, and when we recieved good grades. It has been my pleasure to buy one for each of my siblings for wedding gifts.

Renowned ceramics maker Waechtersbach revives an early American family tradition with its heirloom-quality "You are special today" Red Plate. Historically, a family member was served dinner on a red plate to celebrate an achievement, birthday, or any occasion that calls for special recognition. And who better to produce such a piece than the company famous for its brilliantly colored glazes, especially its original Cherry Red? The 10-1/2-inch plate showcases the congratulatory "You are special" message around the rim with a sweet floral motif that is repeated in the center of the serving area. It comes in a gift box with a pen to write on the plate's backside and a card explaining the custom. Made in Germany; hand wash once pen has been used to write on surface.
