Meconopsis betonicifolia (Himalayan blue poppy) is a plant that grows in fairly limited geographical areas and USDA growing zones. The plant thrives in Anchorage, Alaska (cold winters/cool summers mostly 60-70 degrees F) but will likely not survive in most areas in the continental U.S. because of the summer heat. Growing Meconopsis from seed is fairly challenging, particularly without good instructions. Seeds will frequently germinate, but the seedlings will damp off and die. If the summer temperature where you live exceeds 80 degrees F on a daily basis, the likelihood of Meconopsis surviving is fairly limited, at best.
This is, of course just my opinion, based on my experience with Meconopsis and the literature that I've read. I live in Anchorage and have grown Meconopsis commercially for more than 10 years.
